Hi Anna, That makes sense. In a hip shimmy your lower body is really grounded down which is hard to maintain when you lift the upper body. So your legs try to lengthen a bit when you lift the upper body bringing you into leg shimmy. It's fine to do it that way. But if you wish you layer the hip shimmy then practice staying grounded with a slight bend in the knees and pelvis tucked.

Hi Rose, great question. If you have a moment look up Baladi dress or costumes. I’d recommend Baladi style costuming if this is being done as a solo. If it were part of a larger set then the costume could be a bedlah. I hope that helps.
