@carla Thanks for your question. The next live will be dedicated to a new shimmy choreo so I'm not sure if I will get to break down the 3/4 downs. So to briefly answer your question you do not need to contract your opposite glute, though if you do it can help. You should first focus on on the lateral tilt of the pelvis that comes from obliques. Then you can add in the squeeze. I hope that helps and if I have time on the 28th I will demonstrate that.
