Thanks for your perspective Dana. This is interesting and I will bring it up to my musician friends. I have studied Tabla/Darbuka with Syrians, Moroccans and Egyptians, and all my dance teachers, including many Egyptians, refer to this part of theย improvisational solo and the accompaniment of the dancer as Taqsim. Maybe the word has evolved to mean this in the music/dance world, which is not uncommon. On a side note I have started taking Egyptian Arabic classes so hopefully I can do better with understanding the meaning and context of words.

Hi Louise! So glad my teaching were helpful. Practice really is the magic ingredient. It takes a while to perfect the duet with your veil. Keep up the great work!
